Enter Carnival of Killers, the new album from Chicago’s
ultimate musical weirdos, Macabre, which arrives nearly a decade after 2011’s Grim Scary Tales as the band celebrates its 35th anniversary.
Formed in 1985, Macabre’s lineup has remained the same since day one—vocalist/guitarist
Corporate Death (Lance Lencioni), bassist/vocalist Nefarious (Charles Lescewicz), and drummer Dennis the Menace (Dennis Ritchie).
That’s a rarity for any band, let alone a band in a
genre where peers with similar longevity might not even feature one original member.
The trio is a vanguard of the style they’ve come to describe as “murder metal,” a ferocious mix of death metal, punk rock, grind, jazz fusion, thrash and folk melodies among other sounds with lyrics examining real-life stories of serial killers, mass murderers and more.

GREYBACK (AT):
The Austrian metal band Greyback, founded in Landeck in 2018, has quickly made a name for itself for its unique sound.
With a strong base of melodic death metal, enriched by aggressive thrash elements and some black metal influences, the band creates a multifaceted yet coherent style.
After her debut EP "Insights" (2020) and some changes in the line-up, including Peter Schmid as second guitarist and Michael Weißkopf instead of Florian Scheiber, Greyback released their debut album "Built For Need" in May 2024.
Produced in the renowned "Synonym of Sound" studio, the album shows the band in their musical evolution, which both honors their original roots and presents new, heavier facets.
The well-rehearsed dynamics of the band stem not least from the common musical past of many members: Thomas Köchle, Lino Hochrainer, Peter Schmid and Michael Weißkopf were already part of the band Avenging Angels, which was active from 2000 to 2016.
These synergies flow into Greyback's live performance, which is known for its sympathetic and energetic charisma and always delights the audience.
Greyback is therefore more than just a metal band; it is the result of many years of passion, creative development and a deep connection that is reflected in each of her powerful songs.
